Rather than just one, in-depth post today, let’s have three different shorter ones: [...] The typical right-wing response to President Obama’s declaration yesterday that it was “time to roll back billions of dollars in tax breaks for oil companies and use the money for clean energy R&D” was, predictably, a doom and gloom outcry about increased consumer prices at the gas pump. Well of course gas prices will [...] [...] Why the uber-capitalists’ cry for government intervention reeks of hypocrisy Given the stupidity and ludicrous public response to the catastrophic environmental disaster ongoing in the Gulf of Mexico, and BP’s pathetic corporate response to it, which is quite obviously woefully inadequate in spite of their filed assurances ahead of the drilling that claimed they were amply [...] [...] It’s been a fairly eventful week, and it’s amazing how many and how widespread the ridiculous misconceptions are. Like the horrific oil leak in the Gulf: Does anyone really believe that BP isn’t bothering to put forth their best effort to plug the leak? I mean, even if it doesn’t care about [...] [...] |
