Dwayne Henry (who has had lots of last names over the years) is a scientist in San Antonio, Texas, oddly a well-known large progressive city in a well-known large Conservative state, (like Atlanta, GA or Charlotte, NC, only more so) so perhaps the words “schizophrenic” or “bipolar” are appropriate. Texas, of course, is home of the infamous Texas State Board of Education, and folks like Don McLeroy, who can’t figure out how to abolish public education, so alternately they’ll use the public schools as a venue for religious indoctrination (a behavior, Mr. Henry points out, that is eerily similar to Hitler’s Youth Brigade in Nazi Germany some decades ago). Dwayne does not support the teaching of Creationism as scientific theory, nor does he approve of banning Thomas Jefferson from American History. In fact, he supports the campaigns of TBOE candidates Rebecca Bell-Metereau, Judy Jennings, and Michael Soto, all of whom are running on platforms that decry partisan ideological co-option of education.
Along with his wife Michelle, Dwayne finds time away from his studies and research to fight for unimportant, esoteric liberal political causes, like alleviating poverty, helping to prevent children from starving, that sort of thing. Ya know, all the “social justice” stuff that Glenn Beck is so against.
As well as being a devoted husband to Michelle, Dwayne’s personal interests include music, medicine, motorcycles, and the letter M.
